Ancient Worlds: Shabtis

I’ve been meaning to check in at the Manchester Museum recently as the new Ancient Worlds exhibition had opened. I remember many years ago, travelling to Manchester to visit the museum as my undergraduate dissertation was on Ancient Egyptian tomb decoration and I wanted to have a look at some of the tomb stelae. I now take for granted working a few buildings away. Anyway, the new exhibition is definately worth a visit, they really have transformed the collection, and it certainly appears as if there is a lot more on display. A particular display which caught my eye was that of the Shabti’s (small figures designed to be servants in the afterlife). I think the most I have seen together has been in the British Museum together in London, for me this was one of the most eye catching exhibits.
